Astronomers use the word conjunction to describe meetings of planets and other objects on our sky’s dome on Earth. They use the term great conjunction to describe a meeting of two particular planets, very bright Jupiter and golden Saturn. The last great Jupiter-Saturn conjunction was May 28, 2000.

Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions are the rarest of bright-planet conjunctions, by virtue of their slow motions in front of the constellations of the zodiac. Saturn takes nearly 30 years to go around the sun full circle whereas Jupiter takes nearly 12 years. Thus, every 20 years, Jupiter catches up to Saturn as viewed from Earth.

The next great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn will occur on December 21 of 2020 in the first degree of Aquarius, and so most of 2020 will take place during the end of their cycle. Since the June 20th Solar Eclipse, there has been an atmosphere of anticipation building of being on the precipice of a new era, while simultaneously unresolved issues will resurface in need of resolution.

Since 1802 the Saturn and Jupiter conjunctions have been occurring in earth signs, with the final one occurring on May 28 of 2000 in Taurus. After the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius in 2020, there will continue to only be conjunctions between Jupiter and Saturn in air signs until 2159. Thus ending a 200-year era of Jupiter and Saturn alignments in earth signs that augurs a dramatic transition and reset of civilization that will bring disruption to established “old-world” order and dramatic changes within the collective.

Therefore, 2020 will come to a histrionic conclusion with a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on November 30th, followed by a Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 14, setting the stage for the long-anticipated conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the first degree of Aquarius on the Capricorn Solstice.
